Family Association

The auction is CHS’s largest and most important fundraising event of the year. The committee, typically comprised of 3-5 volunteers and the Auction Specialist, conceptualizes and executes the event, which typically takes place in March.

Time Commitment:

Summer - occasional virtual meetings
Fall - weekly in-person meetings
January - March - in-person meeting, heavy communication

Annual Fund Chairs are asked to pen the Annual Fund letter, attend 2-3 events throughout the year in support of the Annual Fund, make direct asks to current families during the campaign, and overall, be a cheerleader for giving at CHS.

Time Commitment: Chairs serve for two years

Celebrations are a time-honored CHS tradition that help families get to know one another and raise funds for the school. Celebration hosts are responsible for underwriting and planning the event. The Advancement team and Celebrations Chair organize the event schedule, marketing, and registration

Time Commitment:

It’s dependent on the type of event and whether it is an event that the school has run before.

The Family Association hosts the Pancake Breakfast in December, a Movie Night in the spring, and Teacher Appreciation Week and the Book Fair in May. With guidance from the advancement team, Chairs organize these events, secure volunteers to help execute them, and ensure that communications are sent out via the weekly school newsletter. The Family Association has a budget to support these events. Hosts may choose to underwrite certain elements, but it is not a requirement.

Time Commitment:

Planning typically starts with a kickoff 2-3 months prior to the event, and then there are periodic check-ins with stakeholders. Chairs are generally expected to be on campus to support event execution.

Grade Level Reps have a variety of duties throughout the year, one of the most important being communication with the families and teachers in the class. Reps send monthly emails to families, set up a WhatsApp group for easy communication, coordinate the Halloween and Valentine’s Day parties, organize a summer meet-up, and plan a class event in October/November.

Time Commitment:

The role begins in summer and lasts the entire year. Typically, two reps are assigned to a single class. Overall, it is more of a coordinator role, with families working together to execute the events

CHS buddy families help to welcome and transition new students and families to our CHS community. They plan get-togethers over the summer with their buddies at the CHS playground or a nearby park and attend CHS-sponsored events for new families. They also answer questions new families may have about the start of school or CHS in general.

Time Commitment:

The role begins in summer and continues through the start of the school year.

The Family Association Executive Committee is comprised of the Chair, Vice Chair, and Grade Level Rep Chair. The committee meets in the summer to plan the year ahead and then on a monthly basis. Chairs generally attend and/or volunteer for Family Association events such as the Pancake Breakfast, Movie Night, and Teacher Appreciation. They engage with families at new family events in the summer, encourage attendance at CHS Connects, and plan 2-3 Family Association meetings per year.

Time Commitment: The Chair term is limited to one year. The Vice Chair serves one year and then becomes the Chair the following year.

Circulation volunteers help check in, organize, and reshelve books in the library. They commit to weekly volunteering, typically in the morning between 8:00 and 8:45. There are also opportunities to support the library with less regular commitments, such as wrapping new books being added to the collection and assisting with the spring book fair.

Time Commitment:

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to a regular schedule throughout the school year, with the frequency based on each volunteer’s availability.

The school always welcomes short-term volunteer support. Look out for opportunities to assist with the Fall Festival, field trips, class parties, Field Day, the Auction Crafternoon, and more.
