A New Beginning: Embracing the Promise of a New School Year at Concord Hill

As a child, while most of my friends savored the long days of summer, I always found myself longing for the back-to-school season. The excitement of new beginnings, the smell of fresh crayons, and the joy of crossing items off my supply list were pure magic. One summer, my best friend and I even ran a makeshift school in her basement, teaching a group of eight neighborhood kids in those final weeks before the real school year began.

Now, as I step into my first year as Head of Concord Hill School, that same sense of excitement and anticipation fills me. This year, we celebrate our 60th anniversary, and it feels like the perfect time to reflect on our past, embrace the present, and dream about the future. Our theme for this year, “sharing our stories,” embodies this journey. Over the course of the year, we hope to feature many stories that capture the heart and spirit of Concord Hill.

Although the students haven’t returned yet, the school is already buzzing with activity. Teachers are stopping by for meetings, engaging in professional learning, and starting to set up their classrooms. I see the dedication in their eyes as they prepare for the arrival of their students. Our beloved facilities manager, Mr. Luna, is hard at work, making sure every corner of the school sparkles and shines.

Walking through the halls, I imagine the year ahead. I see our classrooms coming to life, with curious minds asking thoughtful questions and diving into projects with enthusiasm. I picture connections forming, not just between teachers and students, but among students themselves, creating a supportive network where everyone feels a sense of belonging and mutual respect. I envision our community coming together during Friday morning Community Meetings and families connecting at carpool, building relationships that extend far beyond the classroom.

With all these possibilities in mind, here’s to a year filled with new beginnings, cherished memories, and the promise of what’s to come.

Welcome back to Concord Hill. Let’s make this a year to remember.
